Best 7 Seater Electric SUV in India: Only Two Real Options
Search for a 7 seater electric SUV in India and you will get a list of ten cars. Most of them are five-seaters that someone has filed in the wrong category.
There are genuinely only two you can buy today: the MG Hector Tomahawk EV from ₹19.49 lakh, and the Mahindra XEV 9S from ₹20.65 lakh.
Here is how they actually compare, which one suits which buyer, and why the car most people cross-shop against them does not belong on the list at all.
Table of Contents
The two 7 seater electric SUVs you can actually buy
| MG Hector Tomahawk EV | Mahindra XEV 9S | |

Prices are ex-showroom. The gap at the top of the range is the thing to notice: the MG tops out at ₹23.50 lakh, the Mahindra keeps going to ₹30.90 lakh.
MG Hector Tomahawk EV: the affordable 7 seater electric SUV
At ₹19.49 lakh this is the cheapest 7 seater electric SUV on sale in India, and it undercuts the Mahindra at every comparable trim.
What you get for it:
- 69.2kWh LFP battery — less energy-dense than the Mahindra’s pack, but longer-lived and more tolerant of Indian heat
- 517 km claimed, 201bhp, 0–100 in 8.2 seconds
- Vehicle-to-home, so the car can power your house during an outage. A first in India and more useful here than it sounds
- A 15.6-inch touchscreen, Level 2 ADAS and IP-rated construction
There is also a Battery-as-a-Service option that drops the entry price to ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90 per kilometre. We ran the numbers on whether that is worth it in our full MG Hector Tomahawk breakdown — the short version is that it breaks even around 1.12 lakh km.
Mahindra XEV 9S: the long-range 7 seater electric SUV
The XEV 9S launched in November 2025 and gives you something the MG cannot: a genuine choice of battery.
- 59kWh — 521 km claimed, 228bhp, from ₹20.65 lakh
- 70kWh — 600 km claimed, 241bhp, from ₹25.05 lakh
- 79kWh — 679 km claimed, 282bhp, from ₹22.65 lakh in the base trim
That 679 km figure is the highest of any 7 seater electric SUV in the country, and Mahindra quotes 480–500 km in real-world use, which is an unusually honest number for a manufacturer to publish.
Charging is the other advantage: 20 minutes on a 140kW DC charger, against the MG’s more modest capability.
Seven seats are standard. A six-seat layout with captain chairs costs about ₹20,000 more.
Why the Tata Harrier EV is not on this list
The Harrier EV comes up in almost every 7 seater electric SUV search, and it is a genuinely good car — 622 km claimed, up to 390bhp, ₹21.79 lakh to ₹30.54 lakh.
It is also a five-seater. There is no seven-seat version.
If you need three rows, it does not matter how good the Harrier EV is. Half the comparison articles you will read put it on the shortlist anyway, which tells you how little checking goes into them.
Real-world range, not claimed range
Range claims on any 7 seater electric SUV are lab numbers. Plan on 25–30% less in real use — highway speeds, air conditioning, a full car.
- MG Hector Tomahawk EV: 517 km claimed → roughly 360–390 km real
- Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh: 679 km claimed → 480–500 km, per Mahindra’s own estimate
- Mahindra XEV 9S 59kWh: 521 km claimed → 400–420 km
Note what this does to the cheapest comparison: the base XEV 9S at ₹20.65 lakh returns roughly the same real-world range as the MG at ₹19.49 lakh, for ₹1.16 lakh more.
Which 7 seater electric SUV should you buy?
Buy the MG Hector Tomahawk EV if price is the deciding factor, your driving is mostly urban with occasional highway runs, and vehicle-to-home appeals to you. It is the cheapest way into three electric rows in India.
Buy the Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh if you regularly drive long distances. 480–500 km of real range and 20-minute fast charging is a different kind of car to live with, and worth the extra money if you actually use it.
Do not buy the XEV 9S 70kWh. Look at the pricing again — the 79kWh pack starts at ₹22.65 lakh while the 70kWh sits at ₹25.05 lakh. You would pay more for less battery because of how the trims are bundled. Check the variant table carefully before signing.
Buy neither 7 seater electric SUV if you cannot charge at home. Both are three-row family cars with large packs. Relying on public charging for a 79kWh battery is a bad way to live.
The Honest Fine Print
Seat counts need checking at the dealer. Sources disagree on the XEV 9S layout — most list seven seats standard with a six-seat captain option, but configurations change by variant. Sit in the third row before you pay.
Ex-showroom is not on-road. Add registration, insurance and any state EV incentive, which varies enormously between states.
The third row in this class is a compromise. Battery packs sit under the floor and eat into seat height. Both of these are fine for children and for short adult journeys, not for four hours with three adults in the back.
Service networks differ. Mahindra’s is considerably wider than MG’s outside metros. For an EV, where a dealer visit is less routine but more specialised, that matters.
Bottom Line
India has exactly two 7 seater electric SUVs, and they are aimed at different people.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV at ₹19.49 lakh is the value pick and the one most families should look at first. The Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh is the one to buy if you drive long distances often enough to feel the difference between 380 km and 490 km of real range.
And if a comparison article puts the Tata Harrier EV on your seven-seater shortlist, stop reading it.
